Use CLAY FIXER for sodic and dispersive soil

Sodic clay is a structural failure. Excess sodium weakens the bonds between clay particles. When water arrives, the clay disperses, slakes, seals its own pores and destroys infiltration. The surface can crust, puddle and run off; beneath it, oxygen, water and roots struggle to move.

  1. Watch the water. Beading suggests repellency; cloudy collapse suggests dispersion.
  2. Drop a dry aggregate into clean water. If it breaks apart and produces a cloudy halo, investigate sodicity.
  3. Check the profile. Dense but intact soil points toward compaction. Collapsed, smeared clay points toward dispersion.
  4. Use a soil test where the stakes are high. Confirm sodium, salinity, texture and pH.
